Welcome to the IBEW 596 website. Along with our signatory contractors, we have been providing highly trained, skilled, and licensed electricians to North Central WV for over 100 years.

The charter of IBEW 596 was signed on January 29, 1917, by 10 men who all had the same purpose in mind; to create a higher standard of living for workers in the electrical industry.

Do I think that any of those 10 men thought the local would be active after 100 years? No, I think they were just like each one of us today, trying to support their families and help their neighbors and anybody in need.

We invite all electrical workers and electrical contractors to join us in striving for a higher standard of living and a safer electrical industry.

Throughout West Virginia, our partnership will bring you and your construction projects experienced, responsible, and dependable electrical professionals who complete jobs on time, safely, and within budget.

IBEW Electrical contractors do much more in the 21st century than put wires behind walls. The workforce of the typical NLMCC contractor has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do anything from residential to industrial work to specialties as diverse as power plant construction, solar photovoltaics, and datacom systems.

Without the training and experience that’s present in this unique workforce and among the management ranks, you — the customer — will not get your money’s worth.

Productivity comes about as a result of management expertise and workers who are trained to work safely (which enables them to work quickly). Whether it’s a large, diversified contractor (with divisions that are devoted to specific niches) — or smaller companies that specialize in anything from datacom to systems integration/building automation to solar photovoltaics and wind — NLMCC contractors can do the job for you.

There’s a great deal more that these contractors, using skilled IBEW workers, can do for their customers.  They prove it every day.

The History of I.B.E.W. Local Union 141-Wheeling, WV

In 1893 Local Union 21 first appears in Wheeling as an Electrical Workers Union. In July of 1897, Local Union 21 dissolved with the years to come to be represented but not formally acknowledged as a Union. A former Local Union from Pittsburg, KS & Frankfort, KY, appeared in Wheeling in January of 1902 listed as a mixed Local 142.

In November of that same year (1902), Local 141 appears in Wheeling as a Line Local. Eight years later, in early 1910, Local 142 disappears and is listed as a mixed Local. The first Convention that Local 141 was mentioned in was 1911. Our Local Union 141 was Charted in 1902. 113 years to this date in 2015 and going STRONG!
