The Electrical Apprentice Training Alliance (The Alliance) has been in existence for 50 years. It is under the direction of the Greater Toronto Electrical Contractors Association (Greater Toronto ECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 353 (IBEW LU 353)
The Alliance is comprised of an equal number of representatives from the Greater Toronto ECA and the IBEW LU 353, which creates a governing body called the Council. The Council sets the Policies, Procedures, and Expectations for which the Alliance operates as well as takes direction regarding the Apprenticeship Program. The Council meets on a regular basis to discuss content and direction for the Program. The Council also works to address any changes imposed by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) and the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
The Alliance is dedicated to shaping the future of the electrical industry by meticulously recruiting, selecting, and educating 309A Construction and Maintenance electrical apprentices and Network Cable Specialists (NCS) across the Greater Toronto Area. Our commitment spans from Lake Ontario to Parry Sound and from Trenton to Oakville, ensuring comprehensive coverage and support.
The Program we offer has been developed to guide and support apprentices from application through to passing their Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) for Journeyperson status. As this apprenticeship is hours-based, the length of time it takes to complete the apprenticeship can vary between individuals. Generally speaking, the average time to complete the program is approximately 6 years.
The intake process is based on labor demand, and the Alliance is informed of this demand by the Local Joint Conference Board (LJCB). The LJCB determines how many workers are required, and in turn, the Alliance selects applicants based on those numbers.
