The Phoenix Electrical JATC Apprenticeship Program was originally registered with the State of Arizona in July of 1943 through a labor-management cooperative effort. We are the leading source for training Apprentices and Journeymen Inside Wiremen for the Electrical Construction Industry in Arizona today.
The Apprenticeship Program is a 5-year program that incorporates 8,000 hours of on-the-job training in commercial and industrial electrical construction, working a full-time job, earning competitive wages and benefits, and learning the trade under the direction of a Journeyman Inside Wireman.
Those work hours complement college-level classes that are credited through the American Council on Education (ACE). The 5-year curriculum is accomplished in a 4 calendar-year period due to the year-round scheduling of classes.
Each semester is scheduled for a minimum of 116 classroom and hands-on training hours, generally attended once per week, which means apprentices will be employed by a union-signatory employer during the day, and attend classes on scheduled evenings.
The 1st year of the program is scheduled for a full 10-hour day of training, scheduled on alternating weeks. Full-time job placement with a sponsoring employer is provided through the Training Center during an apprentice’s time in the program.
Successful completion of the Phoenix Electrical JATC Apprenticeship will earn industry-recognized credentials, including an Arizona State Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion, and the Classification of Journeyman Inside Wireman through the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Apprenticeship is an all-inclusive program providing quality education to individuals pursuing a career in the electrical field. This program implements both classroom instruction coupled with hands-on learning and on-the-job training.
Individuals study all related electrical theory in the classroom with subject matter experts as it correlates into real-life job experiences. Apprentices spend 80% of their apprenticeship in the field, gaining skill and knowledge from skilled journey workers. Our goal is to provide our students with the necessary skill, knowledge, and experience to be successful craftsmen in the electrical field.
Southern Arizona National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the Local 570 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) jointly sponsor the Tucson Electrical Apprenticeship & Training Program (JATC).
